MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS (MS)
MS
in known as the most common neurological disorder among young adults. It is rarely discovered before age 15 or after age 50.
Women are more likely to develop MS than men.
MS
is distinguished by a disruption of nerve impulses traveling from the brain to the body along the central nervous system.
Once a person has MS, their immune system malfunctions and damages the protective layer in the brain and spinal cord. This
damaged protective layer stops nerve impulses before they can complete their journey. The resulting symptoms include difficulties
with vision, speech, balance, fatigue, and possible cognition.
Most patients with MS are employed and have a life span of about 50 years after onset. Thanks to more effective medications
and better health care, MS patients are living longer.
